The 18 hole course, which is located on the inland side
of the main coastal road at Km. 150, just one mile from
Estepona town centre, was designed by Jose Luis Lopez and
first opened in 1989. The design uses the natural landscape
which is set against the Sierra Bermeja mountain range,
and enjoys sea views from most parts of the course. The
fairways are wide and the greens large which provides a
challenge for players of all levels, but doesn't penalise
the average golfer.
Playing the front nine you'll have the pleasure to play
the
longest hole in Spain, our third hole, a par 5 called the
Ski Run which measures 568 metres from the white tees.
There are many palms, eucalyptus and wild olive trees on
the course, and players have a great opportunity to enjoy
many rare species of wildlife, particularly on the second
half.
Players who are unaccustomed to the warmer temperatures
and terrain are always welcome to rent one of our 40 new
Club Cars. Alternatively, trolleys are available for hire.

Par: 72
Length: 6224
Course architect: Robert Trent Jones
First European course designed by Robert Trent Jones and
rated among the 100 best courses in the world since its
foundation (1964). The course championship distance is 6224
metres, par 72 and SSS 74 on its longest distance. Although
the course has wide fairways and very little semi rough
on its fairways, its lakes, fast greens and the strong winds
in this area make it a real challenge to the best of players.
Real Club de Golf Sotogrande´s golf architect, Robert
Trent Jones, once described a golf course as a battleground:
the players attack the course, and it is the architect´s
obligation to defend it. And defend our course he had, by
means of strategically placed bunkers, water hazards, rough
and the general layout of the course itself, as well as
having holes of great beauty such as the seventh and twelfth.
Therefore, when you step out onto the first tee, prepare
to assume the offensive.
This booklet has been prepared as your map of the terrain,
to help you know the course better, judge its distances
and other physical characteristics more accurate, and enable
you to plan your game intelligently. Use it to play position
golf and save yourself vital strokes.

New Course
Holes: 18
Par: 72
Length: 6497
Course architect: Perry Dye & Seve Ballesteros
Estras:Two golf courses, hotel, Seve Ballesteros Natural
Golf School, practice range, riding, tennis, paddle-tennis,
swimmingpool.
2002 saw work begin on the construction of The New Course
- a second championship golf course at the Club. The new
world class course - 6626 metres from the championship tees
- aims to complement The Old Course, while presenting a
very different challenge. The designs, by the renowned American
course designer Perry Dye, incorporate the contours of the
San Roque hills, giving golfers wonderful views to the Guadalquiton
River and the Mediterranean Sea beyond.
The idea was to create a new course that is a challenge
for scratch and low handicap golfers but that is also possible
for higher handicap players to enjoy. To that end each hole
has five different tee positions and fairways that are wider
than those on The Old Course. Nevertheless, these fairways
are designed to reward canny tactics and skilful drive placement.
Water hazards guard four of the greens, also defended by
more than a hundred strategic bunkers, which lie in wait
for wayward or ambitious drivers.
The plentiful growth of mature cork oaks, San Roque's excellent
weather, soil drainage and irrigation plus the expertise
of our experienced team of green-keepers means that the
club's new course - opening in 2003 - is expected to bed
in quickly. It will then provide a thrilling alternative
to the rigours of The Old Course.
